Mike Reily has been teaching here at John Burroughs High School for the last 15 years. He is a member of the Social Studies department, and has been primarily teaching Economics for the last 12 years. He has also been an assistant varsity football coach here for the last 14 years. He has coached the offensive line for all 14 years, has coached the defensive line for a few of those years, and served as the offensive coordinator for last year’s team.
Prior to his time here at JBHS, Mike played five years of Division One college football at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He played offensive line, where he enjoyed success and earned all-conference honors, both academically and athletically. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, and a minor in Business Administration. He graduated Cum Laude from the Honors College at UNLV. Since his days at UNLV, Mike has also earned his Master’s Degree in Education, with an emphasis in Cross-Cultural Teaching.
Before his days at UNLV, Mike was a student-athlete here at JBHS. He is a proud product of the Burbank Unified School District and of Burbank schools. Mike went to Bret Harte Elementary School, Luther Burbank Middle School, and then graduated from JBHS in 1994. He received a full-ride athletic scholarship which is what took him away from the city of Burbank and led him to Las Vegas.
Mike is married to Marcia Reily, a former employee of the BUSD, and a current PBIS Consultant at the Los Angeles County Office of Education. They have one son, John Reily, who also graduated from JBHS. Says Mike, “I am very honored and humbled to be hired as the next head coach of John Burroughs High School. I have a long line of family members who have graduated from this school, including my dad, my sister, my aunts, my grandmother, my niece, and my son. I can appreciate what it’s like to be a student-athlete here at Burroughs, and a teacher-coach. This school has amazing people at every level, and I am always proud to consider myself an Indian. I want to thank Keith Knoop for being an amazing mentor, and an even better friend. I wish to continue the work and build upon the foundation that Keith has put into place. Roll Tribe!!”
